FM – Several Steps for More Simplified GST Assures

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at the National Traders Convention of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) spoke in favour of traders, taking cognizance of the problems faced by the traders in the present taxation system.

FM highlighted that the traders bring in tax revenue and the government would never want to annoy them with a clumsy taxation system and hence are working to make it more simple and rational in structure to comply with.

Under the chairmanship of the GST Revenue Secretary, a committee has been set up to simplify the provisions of the GST tax structure.

CAIT Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal said that they are working to enhance the number of registered traders. The target that they are aiming at is around two crore traders.

FM also reiterated that the traders need to modernise their existing business format and bring GST into their scheme of operations in order to be compliant. She was also of the view that the Government is aiming at making the GST structure simple enough to make the ordinary traders compliant with the GST provisions.

The Government is also planning to hold big shopping festivals across the country to help traders get more opportunities to showcase their products which will involve CAIT also and help the traders get on board the GST taxation provision.
